The child of previous South African Head of State Zuma has denied all charges to terror-linked accusations at the commencement of her court case in the coastal city of Durban.

The defendant, forty-three, is being prosecuted over remarks she made on digital networks several years back during violent protests in South Africa that followed the arrest of her parent.

A week of disorder in multiple regions of the country in July 2021, including theft and arson, caused at least 300 individuals dead and resulted in damage worth an projected $2.8 billion (2.2 billion pounds).

She has been accused of fuelling this violence and faces charges of provocation to commit terrorism and public disorder.

History of the Case

The unrest were centered in the provinces of Gauteng and KZN and followed the former president's arrest for defying a judicial ruling to give evidence at an inquiry into accusations of corruption while he was holding office.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has consistently refuted the accusations against her, with her attorney in the past calling the state's legal argument as weak.

She has also repeatedly stated the accusations against her were an bid to settle political scores with her father after he established his own party and campaigned against the ANC.

Endorsement and Legal Defense

This was supported by the Jacob Zuma foundation, which said the legal matter was an "abuse of power" and a "systematic campaign" of "political and family-related harassment" against the ex-leader and his family.

A few of followers from her group, uMkhonto weSizwe, appeared outside the provincial high court, while her parent and other organization officials were present at the hearings inside.

The defense has stated that the testimony presented by prosecutors is insufficient and does not have substantial proof for a conviction.
