Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the actress are urging that a individual who jumped a barrier and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-part version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, earning a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
