Exploring an Unique Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered numerous interesting independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a protagonist that is literally a dung trying to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is simple: just use a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a shop to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Execute your movements precisely, as a wrong move requires starting over. Leap using air pockets to propel your character higher, navigate disappearing platforms, and activate triggers to unlock new areas. Earn coins for buying more difficult game content in which the action intensifies.

In terms of design, the demo shows off neon stages and catchy soundtrack. The simple graphics with shifting basic polygons may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long included fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme appears a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on computers in the fall.
