Brian Eno Calls On Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The track blends a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative said. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
